We had a water leak at a T in our manufactured home and it was on the old PB plastic piping. Since that is piping discontinued and I have no crimping tools anyway I researched the Sharkbite fittings due to their claim that you need no tools, just measure the depth and slide them on. I was a bit skeptical at first but I was in a bind so purchased two PB to Pex fittings, a Pex T and an Pex Shut off. I watched a youtube video before attempting the repairs just to get an idea what I needed to do. Cutting out the old pipe T, then installing the two PB to Pex fittings with a section between that included the new Pex T, and then the new shut from the T took me 15 minutes. I popped on the water and no leaks, worked perfectly. These things are the real deal and will save you a ton of time and hassle! I can sweat copper pipe as well but for future repairs I may just use these fittings, no sense in wasting my time when I can measure, cut, push to install and then you're done. For those of us with the old polybutylene plumbing, these Sharkbite connectors are a great for replacing the leaking polybutylene lines and fittings in a repair job with more modern PEX or PVC lines and fittings. The gray PB side is pressed onto the old PB pipe - it takes some strength to do it. It is easier to press the Sharkbite onto PEX, PVC or copper. These Sharkbite connectors are very well designed. HINT - be sure to get the Sharkbite Deburring Pipe and Depth Guage tool to properly square off the end of the cut PB/PEX/PVC pipes. Use the depth guage to mark just beyond where the fitting should stop on the pipe. Nice bonus - once the fitting has been pressed on the pipe, you can easily twist it to the desired angle so alignment is not a problem at all. Also, you should get the Sharkbite Disconnect clip (1/2 or 3/4) to allow the easy removal of the fittings if needed. These fittings are relatively expensive but well worth it. In addition to this item, I bought Sharkbite Tee, elbow, reducers, pipe cutter, shutoff valves and PEX pipe. Very happy with all of their products. If you have polybutylene pipes, these are lifesavers. My sister had two leaks at joints in her polybutylene pipes. These couplings allowed us to make the repair in PEX. We’ll eventually re-plumb everything in PEX, but this product did a great job of allowing for a fix in the interim. If you have polybutylene, you should keep a few these on hand in 1/2 and 3/4. They are often hard to find locally.I re-piped all the supply lines in my house to remove all of the poly-b except 2 hot and 2 cold lines for showers where the lines were enclosed in the wall. I put individual shut-off valves on each line after transitioning to PEX-a. I figure I'll leave the short sections of poly-b in the wall until there's a problem or we re-do the showers. These fittings allowed me to leave those small sections of legacy piping in and proceed with replacing everything else. I had previously used 3/4" versions of these fittings to insert a small section of PEX when a coupler burst.Purchase a couple as spares and they were shipped promptly. Shark bites are easy to use and it’s always a good idea to have spare fitting should polybutylene spring a leak.I have the old PV pipe for my sinks and they do not make the fittings and more. I was able to use the shark bite to transition from PV pipe to copper and then to new valve. Highly recommend this for the repair. These are very good and can be used repeatedly. They are quite expensive though. SharkBite appears to be the only brand having the PB capability. These things work really well, especially for transitioning from older polybutylene pipe to PEX or Copper. I keep at least two of these on hand along with a piece of PEX pipe for repairs.Piece of crap! Going to find a waterline coupling which has not failed me yet. Waste of $30 for this.this item is great, used in our older RV easy to repair plumbing , I ordered more of these fittings very happy
